Join fibre artist Monique Ross in an open, hands-on weaving space. Slow down, learn a new technique, and add your threads to a growing communal artwork inspired by the Pilbara's stunning landscapes. It’s not about getting it 'right' — it’s about connection, curiosity, and the experience of creating side by side. You don't need to know what to do. You can stay for five minutes or an hour. Together, we’ll weave something magical.
Monique Ross is an emerging fibre artist whose practice emerges from a profound dialogue with the natural world. A non-Indigenous weaver, her work explores the interplay of colour, form and texture. Monique believes repetition can be meditation, and reveres the intimacy, labour, and lineage embedded in handmade craft processes. She is currently exploring how traditional methods can be used to create immersive, contemporary work.
Monique is based in Magandjin/Brisbane where she has a studio at Merivale Studios. She was the 2025 Artist in Residence at the Cossack Art Awards. She has also exhibited at Vacant Assembly, Side Gallery, and Field Trip.
She facilitates regular weaving workshops in Magandjin/Brisbane, and believes in the power of weaving to build community and foster connection. She also hosts a free monthly weaving circle, along with a weekly women's weaving group at Inala Community Hub.
Monique is also a certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide and the founder of Heartwood Nature Bathing, where she guides nature connection experiences to support the health and wellbeing of both people and the planet. A journalist in a previous life, she also writes about arts and culture for Guardian Australia and the ABC.
